May 7th marked Homer Electric’s
53rd annual meeting, themed “We Shine As One.” The
annual meeting was held at Homer High School and 111
registered members and their families attended this
year’s meeting, up from 94 members registered last
year.
The meeting debuted the
partnership of Touchstone Energy and Homer Electric,
which was emphasized by a large Touchstone Energy
balloon and a booth with information and giveaways.
President Ron Rainey, Treasurer
Ruth Fitzpatrick and General Manager Norm Story
presented the financial recap of 2002, as well
reported on past, present and future projects.
Homer Electric members elected
two new directors, Bruce Passe and John Standefer, who
will replace long-time directors Ron Rainey and Bob
Turkington. Directors Passe and Standefer will each
serve a three-year term.
Representing District 1, Bruce
Passe, was elected to serve the Kenai/North Kenai
area. He received 1,727 votes and Ron Rainey received
1,643 votes. Incumbent Dave Carey representing
District 2 ran opposed and received 3,484 votes. John
Standefer was elected to serve District 3,
representing the Ninilchik to Homer area. He received
2,322 votes against Bob Turkington with 1,608 votes.
Of the 18,501 ballots mailed, a
total of 4,140 ballots were validated and counted,
representing 22.38% of the Homer Electric membership.
Following the election, the board
met to elect officers. Dave Carey was selected to be
president, Hugh Chumley will serve as vice-president,
Deborah Debnam was elected secretary-treasurer and
Ruth Fitzpatrick will serve as deputy
secretary-treasurer.
Catering was provided by The
Chase is Over and many door prizes were given away to
members ranging from electric tools to computers. |
