Homer Electric Association members elect directors at 2008 Annual Meeting

Incumbent Homer Electric Association directors Hugh Chumley of Sterling (District 2) and Mike Pate of Homer (District 3) were elected to three-year terms by the membership of the electric cooperative. Also elected to a seat on the board was David B. Thomas of Kenai (District 1). 

The results were announced at the Homer Electric Association Annual Meeting at Soldotna High School on May 1.

In District 1, (Kenai – Nikiski - and parts of the Kasilof and Soldotna area), David B. Thomas received 830 votes and Ruth Fitzpatrick garnered 445 votes.

In District 2 (Soldotna – Sterling- Kasilof area), Hugh Chumley received 713 votes, Sonja Redmond received 554 votes, and Ed Oberts ended up with 405 votes.  

In District 3 (South Kasilof - Kachemak Bay area), Mike Pate ran unopposed and received 1,209 votes.

There were 4,321 votes cast in the election which is a 21 percent return.

The Annual Meeting was well attended, with 297 members registering and over 500 people present for the event.    

The meeting featured several informational booths with an emphasis on Automated Meter Reading (AMR) and renewable energy. The Division of Forestry’s Firewise program also had an informational booth and representatives of the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation were on hand to distribute information about the state’s home weatherization and rebate program.

During the business portion of the meeting, Homer Electric President Dave Carey and General Manager Brad Janorschke reviewed the highlights of the previous year and participated in an informative question and answer session with the membership.   

The meeting also featured recognition of the winners of Homer Electric’s Safety Poster contest, scholarships awards, and Youth Rally selections. 

In addition, several Homer Electric members were the winners of mail-in and attendance drawings for energy credits, including the grand prize of a year’s worth of electricity.
