December 26, 2018: Approximately 7,998 Homer Electric Association (HEA) members experienced a brief outage early this morning. Chugach Electric alerted HEA of a broken insulator on the 115 kV transmission line near Portage, which caused the outage. This resulted in frequency variations which required HEA to shed load and disconnect power to keep the balance and avoid shutting down HEA’s entire system.
Several areas of HEA’s service territory lost power at 3:23 AM and all were restored by 3:30 AM. Thank you for your patience during this time.
