High Winds Impact HEA Members

August 19, 2019 – Homer Electric Association, Inc. (HEA) experienced numerous power outages over the weekend, August 17 and 18, 2019 due to extremely high winds that hit South Central Alaska.  Most outages were due to the gusting winds blowing trees over on to the power lines.  The Kenai, Soldotna, Sterling, and Funny River areas sustained most of the outages over the two-day period.

The following is a list of the larger outages during this event:

Saturday, August 17, 2019

  • 5:14 AM – 138 members were affected by an outage on Peninsula Avenue in Kenai. Power restored at 7:08 AM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
  • 12:36 PM – 46 members were affected by an outage on Greeting Court in Sterling. Power restored at 4:03. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
  • 12:49 PM – 713 members were affected by an outage in the Scout Lake area in Sterling. Power restored at 3:23 PM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
  • 5:07 PM – 82 members were affected by an outage on Lakeside Drive in Soldotna. Power restored at 6:43 PM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.

Sunday, August 18, 2019

  • 12:49 PM – 321 members were affected by an outage on West Poppy Drive in Soldotna. Power restored at 4:18 PM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
  • 1:17 PM – 316 members were affected by an outage in the Big Eddy area of Soldotna. Power restored at 5:03 PM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
  • 1:02 PM – 51 members were affected by an outage on Douglas Lane in Soldotna. Power restored at 7:43 PM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
  • 2:47 PM – 100 members were affected by an outage on Fisherman’s Road in the Funny River area. Power restored August 19, 2019 at 12:03 AM. Cause of the outage was a tree on the power line.
