June 24, 2020 – Homer Electric Association (HEA) has received reports from members regarding suspicious phone calls this week. The scammer states that the member’s meter is getting changed out and they need to pay by 5 PM with a money order to continue service.
While HEA may contact you by phone for various reasons, the cooperative will never call you to demand payment by a certain method or threaten an immediate disconnection of service if payment is not received. If a suspicious phone call is received, end the phone call and contact Homer Electric for verification and to check the status of your account.
Scammers are becoming smarter, so don’t be fooled by caller ID even if it says ‘Homer Electric Association’. Be scam savvy and never give anyone your personal information unless you are confident the transaction is legitimate.
