January 13, 2022 - Homer Electric Association (HEA) is accepting nominations from members interested in running for a seat on the cooperative’s board of directors.
The cooperative’s board consists of nine directors, three from each of the three Kenai Peninsula service area districts. HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the director in their respective district.
This year, the District 1 (Kenai-Nikiski-parts of Soldotna) seat currently held by HEA Board of Director Dan Chay will be on the ballot. Director Chay is term limited and will not run in this year’s election.
In District 2 (Soldotna-Sterling-Kasilof area), the seat currently held by HEA’s Board of Director Ed Oberts will be up for election. Director Oberts is term limited and will not run in the is year’s election.
In District 3 (Kasilof-Homer-Seldovia area), HEA members will vote for the seat currently held by HEA Board of Director Erin McKittrick. Director McKittrick has informed HEA that she will run as a candidate for the District 3 seat.
Members interested in putting their name on the ballot must complete a Candidacy Packet that requires the candidate to gather a minimum of 15 signatures from current HEA members that live in the district where the candidate resides. The deadline to submit the Candidacy Packet is 5 PM on Friday, March 4, 2022. Completed packets can be submitted at either the Kenai or Homer HEA offices or scanned and emailed to BoardCandidate@homerelectric.com.
Ballots will be mailed to HEA members on April 4, 2022, and to be counted, a ballot must be received by HEA’s election committee through the mail-in ballot process by May 3, 2022. There will be no in-person voting at the HEA Annual Meeting. The results of the election will be announced on the day of the Annual Meeting no later than 3:00 PM on May 4, 2022. Newly elected Directors will be introduced at the Annual Meeting.
