Board Experience
I have served 2 terms on the HEA and AEEC Board of Directors as the Secretary/Treasurer. Throughout my professional career as a Certified Public Accountant, I have served on several "For-Profit" and "Not-for-Profit" businesses and organizations. In Alaska, I served on the BOD of Access Alaska as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chairman from 2003 through 2015. Further, I served with the Alaska Miners Association as a Director, including terms as the Anchorage Branch Chairman for approximately 2 years, and, after moving to Kenai in 2009, as the Kenai Branch Chairman and Vice Chairman for approximately 8 years.
Work Experience
My professional career began at a small public accounting firm in WV, where I prepared income taxes and audited government entities. Over the years, I have gained in-depth experience in finance, management, and operations across a variety of industries, including banking, construction, natural resource development, disability services, railroads, and Alaska Native corporations. This experience includes business start-ups, internal audit and fraud investigations, acquisitions and mergers, contract management and administration of operating agreement provisions, large project oversight and user-group coordination, as well as general operations, management, and BOD reporting. Currently, I am a shareholder and the managing member of JMJ Tax Relief LLC in Kenai, Alaska, and owner of the Log Hog Timber & Sawmill.
Main Goal
During my tenure, we have evaluated a number of potential new energy projects, both conventional and renewable. Always with the primary goal of making sure the project would deliver:
- What was promised at a cost that was promised;
- A long-life asset that would recoup its cost within 10 to 20 years;
- That it would be reliable and integrate well with HEA's other production assets; and
- That it was the best option in the long-term for HEA members.
If re-elected to the HEA BOD, I will bring my comprehensive experience, providing insight and an eye for detail to the table. I will continue to look deeply into immediate and long-term benefits in finance, operations, and strategic planning. Pining for aspects that may have been overlooked. My financial acumen can be of great benefit in the review and evaluation of projects, and in budgeting and planning to ensure responsible fiscal results and lower electric prices for our members, now and into the future. My main goal is to see that our cooperative maintains fiscal responsibility while continuing to provide outstanding customer service. Working tirelessly to ensure we match service viability with environmental conservation to provide a sustainable, low-cost product: Electricity. It has been an honor, and I have enjoyed your support and the trust you have placed in me to represent the members of District 1 on the HEA and AEEC Boards for the past 6 years. I ask that you re-elect me to represent you for one more 3-year term.
